Actress and singer Selena Gomez got candid as she detailed her past struggles with body image, bipolar disorder and lupus.

Selena Gomez gets upset thinking about how hard she used to be on herself.

The Disney Channel star, 31, whose struggles with body image, bipolar disorder and lupus were documented in her 2022 documentary My Mind & Me, reflected on the Apple TV+ film during a panel at SXSW Sunday, reports Page Six.

“It makes me sick to hear the things that I was saying about myself in the beginning. It bums me out,” the actress and singer said during the interview, noting the documentary was shot over a six-year period.

“But I think everybody can relate to that feeling. It’s important to speak to yourself with kindness, but I don’t think I really understood that [at the start of the film],” she added.\

The Only Murders in the Building star said she was inspired to be more candid about her mental health battles after feeling like she didn’t “fit in” within the entertainment industry.

“There was a lot of people that cared about me more than I cared about myself that really wanted me to do things I wasn’t ready for. I had my rock bottom, and I had to do it in my time,” Gomez explained.

She also acknowledged that “you can’t force someone” to want to treat their mental health if they’re not ready to do so.

“It took a couple of tries, but I like to think and hope I’m in a much better place now,” she concluded.

Gomez has reiterated that messaging in several interviews recently.

Last week, she told Rolling Stone that she had found happiness in all areas of her professional and personal life.

“Part of me feels like I’m finally at a good place with everything in my life,” the Monte Carlo actress told the publication.

In addition to releasing new music and working on her fourth studio album, Gomez seems happier than ever in her relationship with music producer Benny Blanco.

When she confirmed their romance in December 2023, revealing that she had been dating Blanco for six months, the songstress described him as “the best thing that’s ever happened” to her.

Gomez also proclaimed that the Eastside hitmaker, whose real name is Benjamin Levine, treats her “better than any human being on this planet.”

Over the past few months, the two haven’t been shy about packing on the PDA, with Gomez posting several snaps of the pair snuggled up on social media.
