1 year oldSelena Gomez is being called out online for looking “unrecognisable” in a photo she posted on Instagram.
The Disney alum, who also owns the Rare Beauty cosmetic brand, shared a selfie with a full face of makeup to promote her products, but it wasn’t just the gorgeous look that people were noticing.
Selena’s face looked notably different in the same vein that Khloe Kardashian’s face often looks different when she posts online.
Selena’s chin and cheeks had almost disappeared in the selfie, meaning fans were left confused and straight-up baffled by the image.
Viral Twitter account Pop Base that has over 1 million followers on Twitter reposted the photos and this is where the conversation kicked off and over 12 million people saw the tweet.
One fan claimed they didn’t “recognise” her in that photo because her face looked so drastically different. Another shared that they “almost” didn’t realise is was Selena and another said it looked like she had a “new face.”
Someone asked if the image was “photoshopped,” and another theorised that for her face to look so different, it had to be “edited” and not just angles.
Others couldn’t but notice that she just looked “different” and one fan commented that it was just the makeup giving the illusion of her face changing.
Selena Gomez has been one of the most famous people in the world since she was a teenager, and this has led to never-ending scrutiny surrounding her weight.
Earlier this year, Selena was shamed after some photos of her in a swimsuit went viral, and she looked more curvy than usual. The response was callous and cruel.
Selena ended up responding to all the comments about her weight and said it was due to medication she takes to help manage the disease lupus.
“When I’m taking it, I tend to hold water weight, and that happens very normally. When I’m off it, I tend to kind of lose weight,” she said.
She also reminded fans when they comment on people’s weight, they don’t always know the “real story.”
She added that she wasn’t a “model” and that people shouldn’t be striving to look perfect because they are already “beautiful and wonderful.”
Gomez further opened on about the experience of body shaming on Apple+’s documentary series Dear … which features different famous people sharing their experiences.
“My weight would constantly fluctuate because I would be on certain medications. And obviously, people just ran with it. It was like they couldn’t wait to find a thing to bring me down. I was being shamed for gaining weight because of my lupus,” she said.
The actress and singer also explained that while she pretended the trolls didn’t get to her, that wasn’t actually the reality.
“I lied. I would go online and post a picture of myself and say (negative comments) don’t matter, I’m not accepting what you’re saying.”
Meanwhile, she said she’d be “crying” in her room because “nobody deserves to hear those things.”
