Trump moved to fire Mueller, but White House counsel balke

President Trump sought the firing of Robert S. Mueller III last June, shortly after the special counsel took over the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. The president backed off only after White House Counsel Donald McGahn threatened to resign over the move. Trump denied the report, telling reporters today that it was “Fake news, folks. Fake news.”

Republicans Say They Have a Deal on Tax Bill

President Trump praised House and Senate negotiators in a lunch meeting at the White House. “We’re very close to getting it done, we’re very close to voting,” Mr. Trump said, of the tax bill. He added later “This is the biggest thing that we’ve worked on.”
