6 year oldWe can’t predict the future, but we do know for sure that for the rest of Nicole Kidman‘s life, she’ll be answering questions about her relationship with her two adult children with Tom Cruise and their relationship with Scientology.
The Big Little Lies star is featured in the latest edition of Australia’s Who magazine, which touts it as her “most candid interview to date” about Bella and Connor Cruise as well as Scientology. (Yahoo Entertainment has reached out to Kidman’s representative to try to confirm the authenticity of the quotes.)
“I’m very private about all that,” Kidman said of her family life, including the two daughters she has with husband Keith Urban: Sunday and Faith. “I have to protect all those relationships. I know 150 percent that I would give up my life for my children because it’s what my purpose is.”
Speaking specifically about fisherman Connor, 23, and designer Bella, 25, she said, “They are adults. … They are able to make their own decisions. They have made choices to be Scientologists and as a mother, it’s my job to love them.”
Kidman continued, “And I am an example of that tolerance and that’s what I believe — that no matter what your child does, the child has love and the child has to know there is available love and I’m open here … I think that’s so important because if that is taken away from a child, to sever that in any child, in any relationship, in any family — I believe it’s wrong. So that’s our job as a parent, to always offer unconditional love.”
She doesn’t reveal much — and that is pretty normal. Since she split with Cruise in 2001 after a decade of marriage, the children, who were adopted, lived with Cruise, and Kidman was pretty cagey about their relationship status. Initially there were reports they were estranged — and that fell in line with ex-Scientologist Leah Remini’s claim that Kidman was deemed a “suppressive person” by the controversial organization for leaving it — but in recent years, Kidman has said that she talks to them. The kids, who were both in Kidman’s 2006 wedding when she married the country singer, have also said that they talk to Kidman.
Perhaps the biggest sign that there is a connection was Bella naming her T-shirt line after both of her parents. However, neither Kidman or Cruise attended Bella’s wedding in 2015. There were reports that she didn’t want them to take the spotlight away from her on her special day. Whatever the reason, them not being there if there are healthy relationships is unusual. (Maybe she didn’t want her parents, who seemingly don’t talk to each other since divorce papers were presented, in the same space.)
