5 year oldJustin Bieber has revealed he’s been “struggling a lot lately” and asked fans to pray for him, nearly a month after he reportedly began receiving treatment for depression.
Bieber posted the personal update on Instagram on Sunday and said he hopes his story “will resonate” with his followers.
“Just wanted to keep you guys updated a little bit hopefully what I’m going through will resonate with you guys. Been struggling a lot. Just feeling super disconnected and weird,” Bieber captioned a photo of himself with manager Scooter Braun and Kanye West.
“I always bounce back so I’m not worried just wanted to reach out and ask for your guys to pray for me. God is faithful and ur prayers really work thanks . the most human season I’ve ever been in facing my stuff head on,” he added.
The Sorry singer penned the emotional post nearly a month after reports surfaced that he was being treated for depression. A source told People magazine Bieber’s recent struggles had “nothing to do” with wife Hailey Baldwin, who he secretly married in September after weeks of dating.
“He is very happy being married to her. It’s just something else that he struggles with mentally. He has good help around him and is receiving some treatment. He seems confident he will feel better soon,” the source said.
Another source said Bieber was receiving counselling.
Bieber opened up about his past struggles with sex and drug addiction in a joint Vogue interview with Baldwin. The singer told the magazine that he had a “legitimate problem with sex” and abused Xanax for a person of his life.
He recalled being celibate prior to rekindling his romance with Baldwin and said abstaining from sex helped him feel closer to God.
“He [God] doesn’t ask us not to have sex for him because he wants rules and stuff,” Bieber told Vogue. “He’s like, ‘I’m trying to protect you from hurt and pain.’ I think sex can cause a lot of pain. Sometimes people have sex because they don’t feel good enough. Because they lack self-worth. Women do that, and guys do that.”
“I wanted to rededicate myself to God in that way because I really felt it was better for the condition of my soul. And I believe that God blessed me with Hailey as a result. There are perks. You get rewarded for good behaviour,” Bieber added.
Baldwin said she was always proud of her new husband for the way he addressed his past addiction.
“I just wanted him to be happy and be good and be safe and feel joy. But I’m really proud of him,” she said. “To do it without a program, and to stick with it without a sober coach or AA or classes — I think it’s extraordinary. He is, in ways, a walking miracle,” she said.
