House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy is on the brink of clinching the speakership after a group of15 previous Republican holdouts flipped their votes to support the California lawmaker on Friday, marking the first major breakthrough in negotiations this week.
Driving the news: In a historic 13th straight round of voting, Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.) switched his vote to McCarthy, bringing his total to 214 — still a handful shy of the necessary simple majority.
