7 year oldAPPLE has given Planet Earth a sneak peek of its upcoming range of emojis.
It released images of the new icons to mark World Emoji Day, which is being celebrated around the world today.
Some of the icons appear designed to have been robbed of their sex in an apparent nod to society’s obsession with gender, which recently saw Transport for London ban announcements which referred to “ladies and gentlemen”.
For instance, a breastfeeding woman is simply called “breastfeeding” whilst a hirsute chap is called “person with beard”.
However, there are no doubts about the sex of the “woman with headscarf” icon.
And it’s not clear whether the cool T-Rex is a chap or lady.
Apple wrote: “With thousands of emoji available on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac, there are many ways to add personality to every message.
“New emoji include Woman with Headscarf, Bearded Person and Breastfeeding, and food items such as Sandwich and Coconut.
“More animals and mythical creatures like T-Rex, Zebra, Zombie and Elf are a fun way to describe situations and new Star-Struck and Exploding Head smiley faces make any message more fun.”
