AJ Styles wins the WWE Championship at Backlash

Styles won the belt from Dean Ambrose in the main event of Smackdown Live’s first PPV Backlash after the ref took a slight bump. Styles used the distraction to low-blow Ambrose and deliver the Styles Clash to win his first championship in WWE. This caps off a very successful year for Styles, who debuted at Royal Rumble in January.

This also means AJ Styles is the first man to be NWA Champion, TNA Champion, IWGP Champion and WWE Champion.

Also on the show, Becky Lynch became the first-ever Smackdown Live Women’s Champion and Heath Slater & Ryhno beat The Usos to becomes the first-ever Smackdown Live Tag Team Champions. The Miz retained his Intercontinental Championship against Dolph Ziggler.
