Powerball jackpot climbs to $1.25 billion just 9 days before Christmas

A $1.25 billion Powerball jackpot could provide someone with plenty of spending money just nine days before Christmas.

The next chance to win will be during Wednesday's drawing.

The jackpot rolled on Monday after no ticket matched all six numbers drawn -- white balls 23, 35, 59, 63, 68 and red Powerball 2. The Power Play multiplier was 4.

Wednesday’s jackpot is the second-largest Powerball prize of 2025, behind the $1.787 billion jackpot won on Sept. 6 in Missouri and Texas.

This marks only the second time in Powerball history that the game has generated back-to-back billion-dollar jackpots.

While the annual payment is worth $1.25 billion, the lump sum payment would be $572.1 million -- both before taxes.

The largest Powerball -- or any lottery -- prize ever was $2.04 billion won by a single ticket in California on Nov. 7, 2022.

There have been just 13 lottery jackpots in U.S. history of over $1 billion. Ten of them have come since 2021.

No one has won the Powerball prize since Sept. 6, when a pair of tickets in Missouri and Texas took a $1.787 billion prize. There have been 42 consecutive drawings without a win.

The numbers drawn on Saturday, when the jackpot had crossed $1 billion, were: 1, 28, 31, 57 and 58 with a Powerball of 16.

While no one won the big prize, two winners in Pennsylvania and North Carolina took home $2 million each, and five winners cashed in their tickets for $1 million each.

But if you're counting on the money for a little holiday pocket change, you might want a backup plan. The odds of winning the jackpot are just 1 in 292.2 million.
