Prince Harry started Sentebale 17 years ago to honour his mother Diana’s memory and bring hope to people affected by HIV and AIDS in southern Africa. The charity’s name translates to “forget-me-not” in Lesotho’s local language and has been the life-blood of the Duke of Sussex’s humanitarian work. The organization now faces an unprecedented crisis after Prince Harry, his co-founder Prince Seeiso, and five trustees stepped down.

Sentebale’s troubles emerged just as it planned to expand beyond HIV-AIDS support to tackle broader youth challenges in Southern Africa. The charity’s former trustees called their decision to leave “devastating” after relationships broke down between them and chairwoman Dr. Sophie Chandauka.
