The rapper said his "understanding" of his father "came with time."
King Harris believes his past issues with his father T.I., are comparable to two iconic characters from Power.
The 21-year-old rapper, whom T.I. shares with Tameka "Tiny" Harris, discussed his relationship with the "What You Know" rapper on the August 21 episode of Reginae Carter's Heir Timepodcast. Around the 19-minute mark of the video below, Carter asked King about his old "feud" with T.I. and whether he's come to "bond" with the three-time Grammy winner now that he's a father.
"I mean, so the understanding with me and my dad came with time, man," King began. "Me and my dad, man...We had a relationship like– it was to the point to where he know me. I know you. But it was almost like Ghost and Tariq in Power, bro."
For those unfamiliar with the Starz show, James "Ghost" St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick) and Tariq James St. Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr.) were constantly in a father-son rivalry, which tragically ended when Tariq killed his father in the show's final season.
"It was like he was telling Tariq like, 'Nah, bro. Just, you know, put the suit on,'" Harris continued. "And it was like I was telling him like, basically, 'All that's going to come, but I'm young, bro. You got to give me time to change, bro.'"
King added that while he understands his father's "frustration," he explained that T.I.'s "whole goal" was for his son to not portray himself as hood.
"And so I'm like, 'All right, cool. That's cool, but you ain't got to go rewrite stuff,' King continued. "Like, you're giving people the perspective of something that you and I know it's not. So, it's like that's rewriting what I that make what I say not credible."
"Because what I'm saying is if you say, 'Nah, you grew up in a big mansion.' And I'd be like, 'Bro, you know I was at my grandma house, so why you even say this?'" King added.
King went on to explain that he wants T.I. to know that he's hustled on his own and doesn't want to be discredited. "So, my thing is it was a it was a lack of understanding because it's like people use that for fuel," King said.
During a 2023 interview on Funny Marco's Open Thoughts, King claimed that he was only at his parents' mansion to film former VH1 reality series T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle but was taken back to his grandmother's house afterwards.
Months after the interview, King caused a stir online for getting into viral altercations, one of which involved T.I. and Tiny. The father and son reconciled soon afterward, and King has evidently matured since becoming a father to now-8-month-old King Jr.
