8 year oldThe ninth season of the sitcom has just finished airing in the US with the 10th season set to kick off in September.
But according to Kunal Nayyar who plays Rajesh Ramayan “Raj” Koothrappali, the 10th season might be the last.
“Look, next season, as it stands on our contract, could be the last season of Big Bang Theory,” the 35-year-old said at MCM Comic-Con London.
“To be completely honest … I know people are gonna want to know what happens after season 10. I don’t know what’s going to happen.”
Nayyar’s hint that the TV juggernaut might be getting ready to say goodbye is consistent with what showrunner Steve Molaro told The Hollywood Reporter in December last year.
“The reality is that maybe season 10 is the ending point,” Molaro said.
“The real answer is I don’t know and all I can do right now is go episode to episode and try to make each one the best that we can. There’s still so many episodes to go. Even if hypothetically season 10 was the end, I wouldn’t be focusing on that yet. That seems like something that would be dealt with way down the line.”
But The Big Bang Theory co-creator, Chuck Lorre, didn’t sound like he was on the same page as Molaro.
“I’m not going to presume to know how many years this has because it’s ridiculous for me to guess,” Lorre said.
“It’s already gone beyond my wildest dreams so anything beyond this … as long as everybody is having a good time and we’re making a show we’re proud of … then it’s worth continuing.”
The sitcom’s main stars: Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg and Kunal Nayyar will all get paid $US1 million per episode, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
