David Beckham’s innocent Instagram post about his daughter Harper has raised eyebrows among some of his followers.
In a sweet photo shared of them attending his friend’s recent wedding, the former soccer star gushed about his 12-year-old daughter looking all grown up.
“My little girl is growing up. boys get ready @brooklynpeltzbeckham @romeobeckham @cruzbeckham. @victoriabeckham good job mama,” David captioned the post, in which he tagged his three eldest sons along with wife Victoria Beckham.
However, his choice of words did not sit well with some online who took the caption the wrong way.
“Get ready for what?” one follower asked, while another wrote, “Please don’t say ‘boys get ready’. That’s gross.”
“Don’t give the boys the green light!” commented yet another critic, with another advising, “You don’t say boys get ready. You say boys stay away, David.”
But it’s clear from the boxing glove emoji David added along with his sons’ names that he meant for Harper’s older brothers – 24, Romeo, 21, and Cruz, 18 – to get ready to protect their sister from the world, which other followers understood loud and clear.
“Definitely think people should read this post slowly. David is requesting his sons better getting ready to protect their sister. honestly think before you type,” wrote one, which another echoed, “He means boys get ready to protect her from the filth that is out there! Why does nobody have common sense nowadays!”
“The boys are literally her brothers, they’re tagged,” another pointed out, with one concluding, “His saying the brothers must get ready with boxing cloves to stand guard for the boyfriends to come!!! Jeezzzzz you people are clowns.”
This isn’t the first time David has come under fire for his posts featuring his only daughter.
Multiple times over the years in various social media posts, the former athlete was criticised for kissing Harper on the lips. The onslaught was so heavy, he was forced to defend himself online.
“I got actually criticised for kissing my daughter on the lips the other day. I kiss all my kids on the lips,” he explained back in 2017.
“Brooklyn maybe not. Brooklyn [was then] 18, he might find that a little bit strange. But I’m very affectionate with the kids. It’s how I was brought up and Victoria, and it’s how we are with our children.
“We want to show our kids love and we protect them, look after them, and support them, and we’re very affectionate with them.”
