5 year oldEarlier today, Miley Cyrus announced her Happy Hippie Foundation partnership with Planned Parenthood and Marc Jacobs in the most Miley Cyrus way possible: alongside a shot of her licking an "ABORTION IS HEALTHCARE" cake. But soon after, Becca Rea-Holloway, aka The Sweet Feminist, jumped on IG to call out Cyrus for stealing her design.
The D.C.-based baker shared a side-by-side of her own "cake art" and Cyrus's. "It is a direct theft of my own original art work from May 2018, with no credit," Rea-Holloway wrote. "It's literally my exact handwriting, message, and concept."
Um, yikes.
The She Is Coming songstress spotted the post and was quick to apologize over the confusion. "We saw the image online and didn't realize it was yours," she commented. "We will absolutely tag you for your work."
She went on to clarify that the cake was for the 'gram only and not included in merch designs. It's "not on the Marc Jacobs x Planned Parenthood hoodie we made to raise money and awareness for Planned Parenthood, which I know is also close to your heart," she said, adding, "thanks for sharing your art and inspiring us."
Unfortunately, Cyrus's attempt at resolution was not well received. While Rea-Holloway acknowledged that, yes, she's happy Miley is working with PP, that's about it. "This was not an oversight, it was blatantly and willfully neglectful and deceitful," she replied. "I would have been more than happy to work with you on a collaboration for this project, but instead my work was just copied without compensation."
According to Rea-Holloway, her original comment was deleted from Cyrus's post. And while Miley has updated it to include a tag for The Sweet Feminist, there's no mention in the caption nor has she responded to Rea-Holloway's further accusations. "This is not 'inspiration,' it's theft," the self-proclaimed "rage baker" concluded.
