6 year oldAriana Grande and Pete Davidson have called off their engagement, according to TMZ. While neither side has confirmed the story, the gossip website cites anonymous sources close to the two who are saying the couple called it quits.
TMZ painted the breakup as amicable saying that "both parties acknowledg[ed] that it simply was not the right time for their relationship to take off."
Ariana canceled a performance at a fundraising gala last night, citing personal reasons. At the time of publication, it was believed to be related to the death of her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller.
Grande's manager Scooter Braun explained her absence to the crowd.
“Someone I'm very close to was supposed to come sing for you today, and because of things that she's going through, she couldn't be here today," Scooter said. "And while I was frustrated, being the manager, my wife, being who she always is, just looked at me and she goes, 'She needs this time.'"
Grande and Davidson got engaged back in June and quickly became internet darlings, like a Millennial version of Chrissy Teigen and John Legend. All reports from the pair appeared to show a happy relationship. They even traded tattoos, with Davidson getting a matching version of Grande's Breakfast At Tiffany's neck tattooand Grande getting a tribute to Davidson's late father.
The news of their split caps an absolutely terrible year and a half for Grande, who had a concert attacked by terrorists and lost her ex-boyfriend to a drug overdose.
Complex has reached out to a representative of Grande for comment. We will update this post if we hear back.
