Kasich abruptly cancelled a planned press conference in Virginia Wednesday morning – sparking speculation that his White House bid was coming to an end.
NBC News, CNN and the Associated Press reported Wednesday that Kasich campaign sources revealed that Kasich would suspend his campaign.
Tuesday evening the Kasich campaign appeared to be moving forward. After a disappointing finish in the Indiana primary, the Kasich campaign released a memosaying that the night’s results will not change his plans to keep pushing forward.
“Our strategy has been and continues to be one that involves winning the nomination at an open convention,” the memo reads in part.
This apparent commitment to stay in the race seemed reinforced by a Twitter postparodying the “Star Wars” opening crawl.
Kasich had been scheduled to speak in Virginia at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday but never appeared.
His run for the Oval Office will come to a close with only one state primary win: his home state of Ohio.
