Prince Harry jokingly warns Barack Obama not to take ‘long pauses’ in preview of their BBC interview

BARACK Obama jokes “Do I have to put on a British accent?” as he is interviewed by Prince Harry for a special Christmas radio broadcast.

The former US President, 56, sat down with Harry at the Invictus Games in September — where the royal had his first public outing with future fiance Meghan Markle.

Nervous Harry, 33, replied: “No, but if you start using long pauses between answers you’re going to get ‘the face’” before scowling.

Footage of their pre-interview chat was released by the BBC today ahead of the full Dec. 27 broadcast on Radio 4’s Today Programme.

Mr Obama, who left the White House last January after Donald Trump’s election, cracked more jokes during their warm-up in Canada.

Harry said: “You’re excited about this. I’m nervous about this. That’s what’s quite funny.”

Obama, wearing a trademark US flag lapel badge, replied: “I’ll interview you if you want”.

The conversation includes his memories of the day he left office and his hopes for his post-presidential life, including his plans to focus on cultivating the next generation of leadership through the Obama Foundation.

It will be broadcast on BBC Radio and also available as a podcast.

Harry and Obama’s bromance blossomed as they spent time together watching events at the Games.

The happy pair bounced-off each other while they cheered on the teams at the Pan Am sports centre.

But Harry’s true affections were reserved for then-girlfriend Meghan as the pair made their first public appearance at a wheelchair basketball match.

Victoria Mendrinos, 42, who said near them said: “I heard them laughing and joking, they seemed like they had known each other all their lives.”

Harry and Meghan will marry at St George’s chapel, Windsor Castle on May 19 next year — the same day as the FA Cup final.
