Mariah Carey said to be ‘depressed’ after split from James Packer

The 46-year-old singer was reportedly left devastated when her engagement to the Aussie billionaire was called off last month. Friends said that while the singer thought the couple would eventually get back together, she’s now said to have accepted that it’s all over.

A source told People magazine: “First the split didn’t seem to faze Mariah. It was like she expected things to be fine soon. Now she realises that things aren’t fine and not being with James makes her depressed.”

Insiders say the singer has been going out to take her mind off of things.

“‘She doesn’t want to sit at home and dwell on it. She is very hurt that he dumped her. She knows she will never be able to find someone like him.”

It’s also claimed that Carey begged her estranged husband Nick Cannon for a divorce so that she could marry Packer.

Mariah Carey has been leaning on friends post-split

The former couple split in August 2014 but their divorce had dragged on because of legal issues regarding their two children, Monroe and Moroccan.

A source told the New York Post, “Nick and Mariah’s divorce was dragging on and on, mainly because of the back and forth between their lawyers. Mariah’s team brought in [famed LA divorce lawyer] Laura Wasser, who helped simplify things.

“But then Mariah called Nick and said, ‘I really want to get married. Will you sign these papers?’
 

“Nick was cool and said, ‘I’m not going to stand in your way. I’ll sign the papers.’ He signed in September, because Mariah and James wanted to get married in early 2017.”

However, days after her divorce from Cannon was granted, Carey and Packer split.

Meanwhile, Carey took the stage for the first time since news of her split from Packer was made public.

The singer shut down an entire block in Toronto overnight to perform for the annual Hudson’s Bay and Saks Fifth Avenue Holiday Window unveiling. Carey performed her Christmas classic All I Want For Christmas Is You outside the store, wearing a red and pink gown and a silver butterfly ring on that finger where her 35-carat diamond engagement ring once was.
