6 year oldSELENA Gomez, who entered a mental health facility this week, did so for a number of reasons — but her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber’s engagement “would undoubtedly have an effect on her,” according to a source.
“Selena has had a lot on her plate — too much,” says the source. “And, of course, as with any major life event,” the engagement would have affected her.
Gomez and Bieber had an on-again-off-again relationship from 2011 up until earlier this year.
He married Hailey Baldwin just last month.
Bieber was photographed crying in his car this week, with many speculating that it was because he was upset about Gomez’s struggles.
But the source stressed that Bieber was not the only reason for her recent stumble. “Selena also has a major medical condition with Lupus,” they said, “and her transplant, which always is a complicating factor.”
The former Disney star had a kidney transplant in September 2017.
Before she checked into the facility, Gomez had reportedly become emotional about being hospitalised twice in September over complications from her transplant.
She is most likely at an East Coast facility doing dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), as previously reported by TMZ, but will also take part in a wellness program.
Some of the options in such programs include meditation, life coaching, fitness and spa treatments, nutrition coaching and art therapy.
Gomez first sought treatment at Arizona’s Dawn at the Meadows facility in 2014. She also checked into a Tennessee facility in 2016. Earlier this year, sources told Page Sixshe was staying at luxury facility Privé-Swiss.
Gomez has been open about her struggles, previously telling Vogue: “I wish more people would talk about therapy. We girls, we’re taught to be almost too resilient . . . We also need to feel allowed to fall apart.”
