“We feel emboldened in this particular moment to stand together … in a thick black line,” said Meryl Streep of the collective fashion choice during a red carpet interview.
A slew of A-list actresses have formed the activist group, Time’s Up, and penned an open letter calling attention to harrassment and mistreatment of women across a variety of industries.
In the fashion stakes, black is often regarded as a safe red carpet option — but many stars still found ways to have fun and take risks within the self-imposed wardrobe stricture.

Jessica Biel’s stunning gown was imbued with nude, cream-coloured tones to offset all that black:
A handful of stars either didn’t get the all-black memo or decided that a colourful outfit would get them noticed at an event that looked for the most part like a high-glam funeral:
