8 year oldThe shocking claims come as Heard’s dire financial situation was revealed, with court papers showing the actress spends much more than she earns.
In an exclusive interview, a source told The New York Post that Heard texted her during an alleged attack last December, and the concerned friend rushed to the couple’s LA pad, whe-re she claims she discovered Heard battered and bruised.
“I got to her apartment to find her with a cut and bruised lip, a swollen eye and a chunk of hair missing f-rom the top of her head,” the friend recalled. “This incident really stuck with me because she confided in me that day that she feared for her life after an intoxicated Johnny tried to suffocate her with a pillow.”
It was hardly the only time a boozed-up and ready-to-rumble Depp, 52, laid his hands on her, the pal claims.
“I have personally witnessed the aftermath of Johnny Depp’s violent and abusive behaviour towards her on many occasions,” the confidante said of Heard, 30.
But like Depp, who has admitted to having a “hellish temper,” Heard confessed she’s not always calm and collected.
“Whenever my old friends meet someone I’m involved with romantically, they immediately warn them: ‘She may look refined, but when she’s angry, she can go trailer park really fast’,” she told W magazine in May 2014. “But I’d always rather be passionate than bland. I can’t imagine living a quiet life.”
In December 2014, rumours started that Depp and Heard’s relationship was in trouble.
“There is no rush to marry at the moment,” a source told People. “Johnny is crazy in love with Amber, but there is turmoil in the relationship.”
Still, they tied the knot during a civil ceremony at Depp’s LA home on February 3, 2015, then jetted off to his private island in the Bahamas to exchange vows in front of friends and family.
Their days of marital bliss were brief. The next month, Depp injured his right hand punching a wall during a fierce fight they had in Australia, sources toldEntertainment Tonight.
The wound was so bad that Depp had to fly back to the US and undergo surgery, which stalled shooting on the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean flick for more than a month.
Sources toldThe New York Post that their marriage was on the verge of collapse after just three months — but the couple agreed to stay together for at least a year before walking away.
“Their relationship turned sour almost immediately,” a source said. “She’s really young and affected by the industry and ‘the scene’ at times.”
Her close relationship with female photographer iO Tillett Wright was also a point of contention, as Depp believed Heard and Wright “were spending too much time together,” a source said.
“He started making her travel with him,” an insider said, “and she started distancing herself f-rom her lesbian friends.”
Heard also began to wonder what she was doing with an ageing man like Depp, whose face is marked by years of hard partying.
“Amber was, like, ‘What am I doing with this old man who used to look like Johnny Depp?’” another source said.
The couple kept quiet about the behind-the-scenes drama until last week, whenHeard filed for divorce, then d-ropped abuse allegations in court papers.
She claims that on May 21, Depp hurled an iPhone at her face and pulled her hair after showing up at their home “inebriated and high.”
AMBER HEARD’S DIRE FINANCIAL SITUATION
According to new court documents, Heard’s basic monthly income is $US10,000 ($14,000) a month, but she spends $US44,000 on “basic expenses”, The Sun reports.
Broken down, every month Heard — who is currently locked in a legal battle for a share of Depp’s $US400 million fortune — forks out $US10,000 on rent, $US2000 on clothes, $US300 on laundry services including dry cleaning and $US7600 on “entertainment, gifts and holidays.
The documents also show she spends $US1500 on car expenses and transport costs, and $US7600 on miscellaneous costs such as pet supplies, her publicist and agent.
And they show she is paying her lawyer Samantha Spector $US550 an hour to represent her in her divorce battle.
Last year, the star earned a total of $US259,876 f-rom films such as The Danish Girl, for which she received $US31,112 and Paranoia, which paid her $US45,314.
She has $US25,000 of savings in the bank and is still making residuals f-rom her roles in The Rum Diary and Magic Mike XXL.
Heard also received money f-rom high-end companies Tiffany & Co and Bulgari, but with her expenses and spending taken into account, she only took home $US51,461.
The details of her finances f-rom 2015 came as it was reported that she is seeking $US50,000 a month in spousal support f-rom Depp, who she filed for divorce f-rom last week.
In the request she made for a restraining order against him, as well as the alimony, she wants protection for her dog Pistol and sole access to the LA home whe-re she and Depp have lived since getting married.
The restraining order and sole access to the property was granted but a judge declined to order Depp away f-rom the dog or any temporary spousal support pending the next hearing.
TEAM DEPP V. TEAM HEARD
Friends and family have been quick to take sides in the ugly celebrity split.
In the Depp camp, a number of stars have jumped to his defence including his Hollywood Vampires bandmate Alice Cooper, British actor Paul Bettany, comedian Doug Stanhope, director Terry Gilliam and actor Mickey Rourke.
His family, including exes Vanessa Paradis and Lori Anne Allison, and daughter Lily-Rose, have also had his back.
While the A-list line up to defend Depp, The Sun reports Heard has found a well of support f-rom close female friends.
Racquel Pennington, who has been a pal for 13 years and also a neighbour of the couple, is at her side. She even filed court documents claiming she was present after the alleged phone attack, and that Depp was “screaming loudly” at Heard and wielding a wine bottle “like a baseball bat”.
Amanda De Cadenet, 44, the British former wild child turned US talk show host, was also photographed with Heard a day after she was allegedly attacked.
She has also shown her loyalty on Twitter by re-tweeting support messages for the actress, including: “I stand with #AmberHeard because when someone abuses you, people shouldn’t tell you THEY DIDN’T JUST BECAUSE THEY LIKE HIS MOVIE.”
iO Tillett Wright, 30, has moved into Heard’s home to support her while Depp is away touring.
Heard’s crowd also includes Channing Tatum and Nicole Richie, as well as fashion players Michael Kors and Zac Posen.
A source said: “Amber’s friends have a lot more to lose by speaking out than Depp, who is desperate to save his career. They are there for her in private but will not be getting on their soapbox in public.”
