The deadly incident happened during a festival celebrating Filipino culture in Vancouver

Several people were killed when a car plowed through the Lapu Lapu street festival in the Canadian city of Vancouver late Saturday evening, police have said.

A number of other pedestrians have been wounded in the incident, which occurred at East 41st Avenue and Fraser Street, the police said in a statement on X. The driver of the vehicle has been taken into custody, the statement read.

The police later said that the suspect was a 30-year-old male from Vancouver. His motives remain unclear.

Those killed and wounded were participants of the annual Lapu Lapu festival, which celebrates Filipino culture, according to local media.
