Mobile adverts boost Facebook profit

Facebook increased quarterly profits by 166% compared with a year ago as revenue from mobile adverts grew.

The social network reported profit of $2.4bn (£1.9bn) in the July to Septemberperiod, slightly ahead of analysts' expectations,

Most of Facebook's revenues came from adverts, of which mobile accounted for 84%, up from 78% in the same period last year.

"We had another good quarter," said Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.

Facebook shares dropped 3% in after-hours trading straight after the results came out, before recovering.
