The top-end model of Apple’s latest iPhone will boast an absolutely massive screen – 5.8 inches, up from 5.5 inches on the iPhone 7 Plus.

It’s also have a new screen technology – OLED – for brighter and sharper pictures, although the device itself won’t be much bigger, as Apple aims to shrink the bezel around the screen, according to Nikkei Asian review.

The downside for users will be a suitably vast price tag – over $1,000, which may well translate to a price above £800 for British users.

Nikkei says ‘By adding more large-screen options to the lineup to meet growing demand for big, Apple intends to raise the average iPhone price, which has already gone up by about 10% in the past three years to nearly $700.’

Nikkei’s sourcces said that as well as the bigger phone (known as iPhone 8), there will be two smaller models in the range, known as iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S plus.

A separate rumour also suggests the device will have a ‘revolutionary’ front-facing camera.

This ‘3D’ sensor could be used to add people’s faces into apps or games, or for facial recognition.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities – behind many previous accurate Apple leaks – says that the device will have a depth-sensing infrared module on the front.

The device will use an infrared transmitter and receiver – and could enable games where people’s heads are transplanted onto game characters.

Using the 3D depth sensor with the camera will allow iPhone to create 3D selfies which could be used in augmented reality apps.
