Donald Trump Announces 3 Week Government Re-Open, Threatens New Shutdown If Border Wall Not Funded

“I am very proud to announce today that we have reached a deal to end the shut down and reopen the federal government,” President Donald Trump, the man who single handedly shut down the government, announced at a Friday afternoon presser.

In a short while I will sign a bill to open the government for three weeks. I will make sure all employee receive their back pay very quickly – or as soon as possible. It will happen very very fast,” he said.

Trump said he asked Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to put the deal to vote on the floor. After 36 days of spirited debate and dialogue I heard from enough Democrats and Republicans that they are willing to put partisanship aside – I think – and put the security of the American people first.”

Trump then began to pitch his border wall – hard.

He spoke of women tied and bound with tape around their faces and mouths, put in the back of cars or vans or trucks. “They don’t go through your port of entry,” Trump said. “They make a right turn go into desert area and, as soon as there is no protection, make a left or right turn into the United States where there is nobody to catch them and nobody to find them.

“We can’t have that. And, because of the internet, it is the biggest problem you can imagine – there has never been a problem like this before. It’s the worst level in the history of the world,” Trump said. “This is not a United States problem, this is a world problem.l

“We really have no choice but to build a powerful wall or steel barrier. If we don’t get a fair deal from Congress, the government will either shut down again on February 15 or I will use the powers afforded to me under the law and Constitution of the United States to address this emergency. We will have great security and I thank you all very much.”

Trump used the White House Rose Garden to paint his apocalyptic picture/announce good news about government shutdown.

The deal re-opens the government, which has been shuttered for 35 days, through February 15, during which time Border Wall talks will continue. Trump previously had rejected this plan of action multiple times.

But, news outlets reported, Trump got motivated by Friday morning’s TV news shots of a groundstop at LaGuardia airport, lengthy delays at other New York area airports, and reports of pilots telling passengers their flights were not taking off due to to the government shutdown. FAA pumped the brakes on air travel in New York area over safety concerns due to air traffic controllers unable to go to work or working without pay due to the government shutdown. The situation was expected to grow worse and ripple across the country the longer the shutdown continued.

The temporary re-opening of the government allows the 800K impacted federal employees to collect back pay, as stipulated in the agreement Trump detailed. POTUS said he will declare a state of national emergency to circumvent Congress on Wall funding, if no deal is reached with Congress.

In his wild Rose Garden address, Trump continued to insist his government shutdown had been very popular among the 800K furloughed federal workers, thanking “all of the incredible federal worker and their amazing families who have shown such extraordinary devotion in the face of this recent hardship.”

“You are fantastic people, you are incredible patriots. Many of you have suffered far great than anyone  but your families would know or understand. And not only did you not complain, but in many cases you encouraged me to keep going because you care so much about our country and about its border security,”

Again I thank you, all Americans, I thank you,” Trump said as he wrapped up his address.

“You are very very special people. I am so proud you are citizens of our country. When I say Make America Great Again, it could never be done without you. Great people.”
