8 year oldFlip phones may have become a niche in the smartphone era, but that will reportedly not stop Samsung from putting out the rumored SM-W2017, thanks to its appearance on theGeekbench and Antutu benchmark tests.
Based on information provided by both tests, the W2017, codename Veyron, looks to feature a 4.2-inch, 1,920 x 1,080 resolution display. If the phone is anything like its predecessor, however, it will also sport an exterior display. On the inside is a 5-megapixel camera and a 12MP sensor can be found around back.
Under the hood is where things get quite intriguing, with a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 and 4GB RAM running the show. The Veyron will reportedly include 64GB of native storage out of the box, though the battery capacity was not divulged. Even so, its predecessor included a 2,000mAh power pack, so expect something similar for the Veyron.

Finally, and somewhat unfortunately, the Veyron looks to run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box, though an update to the fresher Nougat might be in the works.
Note that Samsung is not the only major phone manufacturer to be putting out flip phones, with Gionee and LG also releasing modern equivalents of the phones of yesteryear. Even more impressive is that when it comes to horsepower, these phones do not hold back nearly as much as you think they might, with the Veyron in particular matching the specs of its distant cousins: the Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, and Note 7. The Veyron may not come close to selling as many units as Samsung’s trio of flagships, but there certainly is a market for such phones.
Samsung has not officially announced the Veyron yet, so availability information is unknown at the time of this writing. Even so, the phone’s appearance on benchmark tests might mean its release is at least imminent, particularly given its predecessor’s November 2015 release. Furthermore, the W2016 did not leave mainland China, so the same might be said of the Veyron.
