Grande references Davidson, Miller in new song

AFTER making some awkward, passive aggressive swipes at each other publicly, it appears Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson have finally made amends. 

The pair abruptly ended their whirlwind romance — which shocked fans with its intensity and saw them get engaged after just a few weeks — last month. And it did not seem amicable.

But on Saturday night, Davidson, 24, and Grande, 25, buried the hatchet.

First, the singer dropped her new single, “Thank U, Next”, where she referenced the split and thanked her former fiancee.

The SNL comedian is one of the many exes Grande references in the song’s opening lines, along with Big Sean, Ricky Alvarez and Mac Miller: “Thought I’d end up with Sean but he wasn’t a match / Wrote some songs about Ricky now I listen and laugh / Even almost got married and for Pete, I’m so thankful / Wish I could say, ‘Thank you’ to Malcolm ‘cause he was an angel.”

Grande dropped her new single just minutes before this week’s “Saturday Night Live” aired. In response, Davidson also offered an olive branch to Grande during his first major appearance on the night’s episode, in which he joined Michael Che for a “Weekend Update” segment about the midterm elections.
 

He ended the segment on a serious, but sweet, note with a message to viewers about Grande and their breakup.

“The last thing I will say is, I know some of you are curious about the breakup, but the truth is, it’s nobody’s business, and sometimes things just don’t work out and that’s OK,” he said. “She’s a wonderful, strong person and I wish her all the happiness in the world. Now please, go vote on Tuesday.”

The exchange is a nice 180-turnaround for the pair, who spent the last week throwing shade.

The drama started when Davidson appeared in a promo for last week’s episode of SNL, in which he jokingly proposed to musical guest Maggie Rogers.

When she rejected him, he joked: “0 for 3”, referencing the broken engagement and his past failed attempts at love.

Grande didn’t think the joke was very funny, however, slamming Davidson in several since-deleted tweets.

“For somebody who claims to hate relevancy u sure love clinging to it huh,” she wrote.
