The strikes killed more than 274 people, including 39 women, 21 children and two ambulance workers, Lebanese Health Minister Firas Abiad said in a news conference. Another 1,024 people were wounded, he said.
Hezbollah responded by lobbying dozens of rockets into Israel, some reaching as far as Haifa. Hezbollah said it was targeting military bases and a weapons manufacturing company.
