At least five people have been shot with “several dead” at a school in Sweden in what is being described as an “extremely serious” incident.

Swedish police have said an incident is “ongoing” at an educational institution in Orebro, a city 200km east of Stockholm in the centre of the country.
“A suspected serious crime of violence,” has occurred, Police said in a statement.
“This is currently seen as an attempted murder, arson and aggravated weapons offence,”
“The danger is not over. The public MUST continue to stay away,” police added.
The shooting occurred at 12.30pm local time (10.30pm AEST) at the Risbergska School in the south of the city of 150,000 people.
Risbergska School contains a number of schools within it. The BBC has reported the incident happened at a Komvux, a school for people who did not finish either primary or high school. It is primarily attended by adults.
Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet has reported that “several people are dead,” although this has not been confirned by police.
Another paper, Expressen, has reported that the gunman shot himself.
So far, Police have said attempted murder, arson and aggravated weapons offences have occurred.
Sweden’s justice minister Gunnar Strommer said: “The government is in close contact with the police, and is closely following developments”.
“The information about the violent attack in Orebro is extremely serious”.
Mass shootings are rare in Sweden. The country places limits on firearms ownership meaning people have to have passed a hunting exam or be part of a shooting club, show a need for a gun and be of good character to posses a gun.
Nonetheless, 2.3 million guns are legally owned in Sweden putting it in one of the higher per capita firearms owning nations.
In Europe, Sweden has one of the highest gun murder rates. Chiefly these murders occur due to drug dealing and murders within gangs.
