A GUNMAN is on the run after a horrific daylight shooting at a shopping centre in Sweden.

The victim was reportedly been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being shot in the leg during a brawl.

Sydsvenskan newspaper reported the shooting happened at the Rosengard Centrumshopping centre in Malmö about 4.20pm Tuesday (12.20am Wednesday AEST).

“It’s messy in there, but one man has been shot — probably in the leg. He has been taken to hospital,” police officer Lotta Svensson told the paper.

Police said they had not identified a suspect or motive in the shooting and had made no arrests. The shopping outlet has been evacuated as police hunt the gunman, who is believed to have fled on foot.

The Local reports Malmo, an immigrant neighbourhood of Sweden’s third largest city, is known for its gun-related gang crime.

Europe has been shaken by a series of violent attacks on civilians in Germany, France and Belgium over the past 18 months. Many of the attacks were claimed by Islamic State.

The latest attack comes days after a gunman killed nine people at a shopping centre in Munich, Germany.
