Denver Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib was shot following a fight in a Dallas nightclub early Sunday morning, WFAA TV in Dallas first reported.

Reporter Rebecca Lopez tweeted that Talib was one of three people shot following a fight at a local nightclub, V Live. Talib reportedly was taken to Medical City Hospital and NFL Network's Jeff Darlington reports that Talib was treated for his injuries there and released.

A Medical City spokeswoman told Shutdown Corner that as of 4:53 p.m. CST there was no patient at the hospital with the name Aqib Talib. Broncos public relations director Patrick Smyth sent out the following on Sunday, confirming that Talib was shot in the leg:

According to a WNAA report, the shooting was "accidental." When news first broke, there were fears of another Darrent Williams story involving a Broncos cornerback. But this report almost makes it sound like another Plaxico Burress type of situation. Burressaccidentally shot himself in a New York nightclub and later was suspended by the team for four games for the incident.

Talib grew up in the area and spends time in the offseason in Dallas. Local police once claimed to have arrested Talib, but it actually was his brother they had apprehended. Talib and his brother last year got in trouble at a different nightclub, LUXX Club, when shots were fired during an al-tercation they reportedly were involved in. They were investigated for aggravated assault, but c-harges were never filed.

Talib also was c-harged with aggravated assault in nearby Garland, Texas after allegedly firing a gun at his sister's boyfriend in March 2011, but c-harges were d-ropped.

Talib, 30, and the Broncos won the Super Bowl in February but it has been a tough offseason for the champs, who lost their top two quarterbacks to retirement and free agency and watched other talented players leave for greener pastures elsewhe-re after beating the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50. Those teams will kick off the season in a Week 1 rematch.

The Broncos are set to report to their three-day mandatory minicamp on Tuesday. Talib's status for the minicamp or beyond is not known.
