Woman’s body in water near iconic Sydney Opera House

A WOMAN’S body has been discovered floating in Sydney Harbour nearby the iconic Sydney Opera House this morning.

A WOMAN has died after reportedly falling overboard from a Sydney ferry nearby the iconic Sydney Opera House this morning.

The woman’s body was subsequently discovered floating in Sydney Harbour.

NSW Police told news.com.au the woman was discovered in water near Garden Island at around 9am on Monday morning, the location of Sydney’s major Royal Australian Navy base.

A member of the public first spotted the woman who bravely “retrieved” her and “transferred her to the NSW water police”.

The ferry was en route from Circular Quay, Sydney’s major ferry hub, towards Manly, a popular stop-off for ferry passengers.

“The Manly Ferry just stopped near Fort Denison,” said Tim Stephens, who was on board the ferry at the time.

“We heard some shouting and then I went down the back. I heard a guy on the boat saying that a woman might have jumped or fell into the harbour.

“An announcement on the boat said there was a man overboard. We’ve just been sitting here.”

The water police rushed her to an ambulance but she was unable to be revived.

Police are preparing a brief for the coroner.

Police said the woman’s death is not being treated as suspicious.
