ABC13 Students were evacuated from Santa Fe High School Friday morning. The high school serves about 1,500 students, according to statistics reported to the U.S. Department of Education.

The shooting comes after months of activism in the US over guns and gun violence, led by the survivors of the school shooting in Parkland, Florida, that killed 17 people in February.

Here’s what we know and what we don’t so far about the shooting.

What we know

A gunman opened fire Friday morning at Santa Fe High School, a public school located roughly 30 miles southeast of Houston.

The exact number of fatalities isn’t yet known but is between eight and 10, Ed Gonzalez, Harris County sheriff, said at a press conference just before noon Eastern time Friday.
The fatalities “include students and some adult staff as well,” Gonzalez said.
According to Gonzalez, one person is in custody and another has been detained.
