CBS News is trimming its workforce "to make room for the things [it] must build to remain competitive," according to a memo obtained by Business Insider. The downsizing will affect 6% of staff, roughly 70 people, Variety reports, citing an anonymous source. The network will also shut down its CBS News Radio service, which provides programming to 700 stations, in May. Editor-in-chief Bari Weiss alluded to potential cuts in a town hall at the start of the year, saying she wants to attract a younger, more digitally focused audience.

The White House launched a "media offenders" page on its official website on Friday, naming outlets it accuses of bias and "fake news" – including 2025 Pulitzer Prize finalist the Boston Globe, CBS News and the UK’s Independent. Experts warn that the initiative is aimed at delegitimising the very journalists and media outlets who would hold US President Donald Trump and his administration accountable.
