The UK’s vote to leave the European Union sent the British pound plummeting nearly 10 percent Friday.
Thursday afternoon, the winner's haul was worth just over $3 million. One day later, the award depreciated over $275,000 due to the stock-market panic.
Though Wimbledon increased its prize from £1.89 million to £2 million, the winners of the 2016 edition currently stand to take home close to $60,000 less than last year’s champions.
While the total might not matter much to high-earning stars like Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Serena Williams, the drop will have a greater effect on the low-ranking players.
It already took a hit on players in the tournament’s qualifying round, who lost $1,800 overnight after a rain delay pushed matches from Thursday to Friday.
