More than a foot of snow expected in New York City; winter storm warnings stretch to Massachusetts

A major winter storm is expected to dump more than a foot of snow across a swath of the Northeast starting late Wednesday morning, with 14 inches expected in New York City, the National Weather Service said.

The storm will also cause icy conditions in parts of North Carolina and Virginia, while rain could cause flooding around Baltimore and Washington, D.C., the weather service said.

“It’ll be pretty high impact,” said Bob Oravec, a weather service forecaster in College Park, Md.
