C​OVID-19 drug video quickly banned ​

Donald Trump Jr. has been temporarily limited from using his Twitter account after posting a video clip of doctors making claims about the benefits of hydroxychloroquine.

The controversial anti-malaria drug was famously touted by President Donald Trump for its use against COVID-19.

Donald Trump Jr’s campaign manager Andrew Surabian claimed the account suspended.

“BREAKING (Twitter) and Jack (Dorsey) have suspended (Donald Trump Jr.) for posting a viral video of medical doctors talking about Hydroxychloroquine.

“Big Tech is the biggest threat to free expression in America today & they’re continuing to engage in open election interference — full stop,” Mr Surabian posted on Twitter.

Twitter said the video had violated its “policy on spreading misleading and potentially harmful information related to COVID-19”.

Donald Trump Jr will still be able to browse Twitter and send direct messages during the restriction period.

Twitter later commented: “We did not suspend the account. The screenshot shared directly says that Twitter required the tweet to be deleted because it violated our rules, and that we would limit some account functionality for 12 hours.”

In the now-removed tweet, Trump Jr. wrote, “This is a much watch!!! So different from the narrative that everyone is running with.”

The video featured a group called America's Frontline Doctors talking about treating patients with hydroxychloroquine.

Dr. Stella Immanuel, a controversial doctor from Houston, Texas, was recorded making a number of dubious claims - including that hydroxychloroquine is a “cure” for COVID-19.

Various clips of the video went viral before being removed by Twitter and Facebook - after they had been viewed tens of millions of times.

So what’s in the banned video?

Dr Stella Immanuel said she had successfully treated more than 350 people with coronavirus using hydroxychloroquine.

“I’m here because I have personally treated over 350 patients with COVID,” she said.

“Patients that have diabetes, patients that have high blood pressure, patients that have asthma, old people … I think my oldest patient is 92 … 87 year olds. And the result has been the same. I put them on hydroxychloroquine, I put them on zinc, I put them on Zithromax, and they’re all well.”
 

But emergency medicine doctor Anand Swaminathan said the hydroxychloroquine “propaganda” from America’s Frontline Doctors was complete nonsense.

“This is the message of hucksters, not doctors,” he wrote on Twitter.

“Multiple well-done studies show no benefit for HCQ (Hydroxychloroquine). If your results are so good, publish. Otherwise, you’re full of it.”
