5 year oldFive people were killed and at least 21 were wounded—including a 17-month-old child who was reportedly shot in the face—when a man went on a terrifying shooting rampage in west Texas on Saturday afternoon. Police said they shot and killed the gunman at a movie theater and did not believe there were other suspects.
One of the victims was initially treated at a local hospital but passed away late Saturday, authorities said.
Police said the suspect was a white man in his mid-30s. The motive for the carnage—which police said began with a traffic stop—was unknown, authorities said.
“This was a joint effort by just a multitude of departments to find this animal and bring him to justice,” Odessa Police Chief Michael Gerke said.
Saturday’s chaotic scene unfolded at first along highways that connect Midland and Odessa. Midland Mayor Jerry Morales said motorists were targeted “at random.”
Footage from the scene showed multiple vehicles with bullet holes in their windshields.
