Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, a 35-year-old from Florida, allegedly opened fire with an AR-15-style rifle. A motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
Ivanna Ortiz, 35, was also charged with multiple counts of assault with a firearm, assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and shooting into an inhabited dwelling, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
Special allegations that can be used in sentencing were also tacked on to each count. They included personal discharge of a firearm and use of a firearm.
District Attorney Nathan Hochman said the charges are connected to 10 victims: Rihanna, partner A$AP Rocky, their three children, their three household staff members, and two people at home at a neighboring residence also targeted in the attack, Hochman said.
No injuries were reported.
A court hearing took place Tuesday, during which Ortiz’s arraignment was scheduled for later this month, Hochman said. Her bail was set at $1.875 million, he said.
It wasn’t clear if Ortiz has retained legal representation, and the county public defender did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
A motive for the shooting was still under investigation, the district attorney said.
Rihanna and A$AP Rocky were in an Airstream camping trailer on the property at the time, he said. It counted as one of three inhabited dwellings targeted in the shooting, Hochman said.
"We intend to convict Ms. Ortiz of all the charges … beyond a reasonable doubt," Hochman said Tuesday during a news conference outside the county courthouse in downtown L.A.
The shooting Sunday afternoon outside the home in the Beverly Crest community of Los Angeles was carried out with an AR-15-style rifle, Los Angeles police said. A gate on the property appeared to have been struck.
Ortiz was found by officers over the hill in Sherman Oaks after they spotted a vehicle matching the description of one used by the alleged shooter, police said. She was taken into custody during a traffic stop, they said.
State records in Florida state that a woman of the same name is a licensed speech-language pathologist in good standing.
Her divorce from her ex-husband included a 2023 incident of violence, according to an arrest affidavit. She allegedly texted him, "You'll be socked on the nose tonight" when he dropped off their children at Ortiz's apartment, according to the affidavit, and cellphone video of the confrontation allegedly showed Ortiz calling the man a homophobic slur.
