‘Insane’: Cardi B posts video of her umbilical cord being made into jewellery

Cardi B had her umbilical cord made into a piece of jewellery that retails for over $US1,000 days after giving birth to her fourth child.
Graphic images of the creation process can be seen in the jeweller’s video as the body part is cut open with internal liquid oozing out.
Wearing pink surgical gloves, the jeweller took the umbilical cord, which was dyed blue, and cut it down the middle to make an incision.
She then got a heart-shaped wire, which she inserted into the umbilical cord to form its design.
Once the entire cord was wrapped around the metal heart, the extra limbs were then snipped to form the perfect shape.
The ends of the cord were then moulded together and pushed down in a presser to flatten them out.
The final step of the special creation processes was coating the umbilical cord with gold, appearing to be for a statement necklace piece.
“This is insane,” commented one fan on Instagram, with another agreeing adding: “WTF is this?”
While a third added: “This is more of Cardi B than I ever needed to see. Gross.”
Cardi, 33, had the special item made by Mommy Made Encapsulation, which has made a business of encapsulating over 40,000 placentas.
The packages for the process begin at $US500; however, there are a number of add-ons customers can choose, including placenta prints, that would make the grand total closer to $US1,000.
The creator explained more about the process in the video’s caption, writing: “Where her journey started… turned into a keepsake she’ll treasure forever.
“The umbilical cord is the very first connection between a mother and her baby — the lifeline that nourished, protected, and carried them through every moment of pregnancy.
“Creating this keepsake is always such an honour, but doing it for Cardi and her sweet baby again means the world to us.
“Turning something so meaningful into a piece that can be held, remembered, and cherished forever is one of the most special parts of what we do,” the company gushed in the Instagram post.
In addition to providing Cardi with the special gift, the company has served a number of celebrity mums.
