The truth behind why stars who were vocal supporters of Kamala Harris have remained silent after Donald Trump’s US election win has been revealed.
It’s been just over a week since Donald Trump became the 47th president of the United States.
His victory against Kamala Harris seemed like a longshot at some points, and numerous members of Hollywood’s elite had come out against the former and soon to be current president.
From Taylor Swift to Oprah, A-list stars firmly placed their support behind Harris in lengthy social media posts urging people to vote against Trump.
However, since Trump was announced as the winner of the vote, the same celebrities have seemingly fallen silent.
Swift has been seen out and about supporting her boyfriend, NFL player Travis Kelce, but has yet to speak on the election result.
Now, it’s been claimed that the reason for their silence is because of the personal cost their opinions could have on their popularity in the wake of such a huge Trump win.
Oprah, one of the most vocal of Harris supporters, has also remained silent. Others who attended Harris rallies, including Jennifer Lopez and Ricky Martin, have also kept quiet.
“There’s a variety of reasons why that might be the case,” Dough Eldridge, founder of Achilles PR, told Fox News Digital.
“Strategically speaking, had it been closer, you might be hearing more fervent rebukes and calls to ‘resist’ from the celebrity class. However, Trump dominated the Electoral College and won the popular vote. The voters, which is a synonym for ‘fans’ in this case, spoke loud and clear. Partisan celebs might have lost the election, but they cannot afford to isolate and lose their fans as well.
“Not everything in life requires a prepared statement or a fully carved-out position.
“Simply allowing the results to settle, the fans to calm and the daily routine to progress, is itself a reasonable, de-escalating response.”
Trump needed 270 electoral college votes to win and will finish with 312 after he took Pennsylvania, Michigan, Georgia, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Nevada and Arizona in a clean sweep of all seven swing states.
Republicans have won back the Senate and are likely to retain control of the House. Trump is also projected to win the national popular vote, the first time for a Republican since 2004.
