The man is a well-known figure in the Paris underworld and has multiple convictions for robbery and more.
A key suspect in the Kim Kardashian robbery in Paris has died before the case was set to go on trial.
According to a report by The Daily Mail, the suspect, named Marceau Baum-Gertner, passed away in Paris back in March. He was set to appear in court on Monday alongside 10 other people accused of playing a part in the robbery. The cause of death has not yet been determined.
"Mr Baum-Gertner had been released on bail following his arrest over the Kim Kardashian robbery eight years ago, and was living in Paris, while regularly reporting to police," a source reported to the Daily Mail. "His name was on the defendants' list for the trial, and he was very enthusiastic about clearing his name in court. This was until he died suddenly in the 10th arrondissement of Paris on March 6."
During his pre-trial interrogation, Baum-Gertner refused to give up names connected to the robbery, but The Daily Mail source claimed other criminals believed he would start talking during cross-examinations to get less prison time.
"He was suspected of liaising with mafia gangs from across the world over the Kardashian jewelry, and criminals are known to have issued threats against him following widespread publicity connected to the case," the source told The Daily Mail.
Baum-Gertner is accused of working with an underground gang that tied and gagged Kardashian at gunpoint in her Paris hotel room in 2016, and stole $10 million in jewelry, including a $4 million diamond ring. Baum-Gertner is alleged to have found buyers for the items stolen from the socialite during the robbery and is a well-known figure in the Paris underworld with multiple convictions for robbery and more.
In March, TMZ reported that Kim K would be showing up to court in person in May to testify in the trial. She initially recalled how the robbery went down to a judge, but this will be the first time she does so in front of a jury.
