Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce from Ben Affleck on the couple’s two-year wedding anniversary.
According to official paperwork obtained by TMZ, the US pop star, 55, filed papers in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
Lopez listed their date of separation as April 26, 2024, confirming ongoing rumours they’ve been separated for several months.
Her decision to file for divorce on August 20, local time, falls on the same date as their lavish second wedding ceremony in 2022, which was held at Affleck’s estate in the US state of Georgia. They first married in Las Vegas on July 16, 2022.
The documents don’t state whether there’s a prenuptial agreement in place, with sources telling TMZ the couple didn’t sign one.
Per the documents, Lopez waived her right to spousal support, and is requesting a judge deny Affleck, 52, spousal support too.
The outlet notes the couple has been privately attempting to reach a financial settlement over the past few months, with talks becoming increasingly “acrimonious” as they are no longer on speaking terms, sources claim.
The high-profile pair, who were engaged in 2002 before calling it quits two years later, first sparked split rumours in May when Lopez attended the 2024 Met Gala in New York on her own.
Since then, Lopez and Affleck have been engulfed by incessant reports they’ve been on the rocks, with Lopez having spent several weeks in the Hamptons, where she threw an opulent 55th birthday party without Affleck present.
Further, Affleck was reported to have bought a new home in July in the Pacific Palisades area in LA, a month after the couple quietly listed their $91 million Beverly Hills marital home for sale.
Neither Lopez or Affleck have commented on split rumours publicly.
It’s been reported the delay in filing for divorce stemmed from Lopez feeling “humiliated” over their relationship breakdown.
“She’s furious,” a source told New York Post in August.
“He has humiliated her. He was the one who initiated getting back together.”
Lopez and Affleck sensationally rekindled their relationship in July 2021 after Lopez’s abrupt split from her former fiance, Alex Rodriguez, in April 2021.
“He’s humiliated her because she made a big deal that he’s the love of her life,” the source continued.
“They just had two weddings two years ago. This is some kind of a record, they’re not young kids.”
The Hustlers actress has suffered a slew of career setbacks of late.
In June, Lopez released a statement announcing she was cancelling her planned 30-date North American tour - her first in five years - just weeks before it was due to begin, a decision that the star said left her “heartsick.”
Lopez’s reason for canning the tour, which was due to kick off on June 26, was to spend more time with her family - but it came amid reports of her marital difficulties, and that the tour itself had struggled to sell tickets.
“I am completely heartsick and devastated about letting you down,” she wrote at the time.
“Please know that I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t feel that it was absolutely necessary.”
That statement came just months after the February release of her much-hyped ninth album This Is Me … Now - her first in 10 years - and its accompanying Prime Video musical film, which chronicled her rekindled romance with Affleck and the self-healing she’d experienced as a result of their love story.
But the move failed to resonate among fans, with the album flopping on the Billboard 200 chart by debuting at No. 38.
In Australia, it debuted at 82 on the ARIA charts, while the visual accompaniment copped mixed reviews among critics.
Lopez was forced to hastily rebrand the album’s tour to a greatest all-time hits show in a desperate bid to sell tickets, before she ultimately pulled the pin on touring.
Lopez, who has two children with ex-husband Marc Anthony, has been married four times, including to Affleck, Anthony (from 2004 to 2014), Cris Judd (2001 to 2003) and Ojani Noa (1997 to 1998).
Meanwhile, Affleck was previously married to actress Jennifer Garner from 2005 until 2018. The former couple shares three children.
