Liam Payne was posting multiple videos on social media about his trip to Argentina shortly before he was found dead outside a hotel in Buenos Aires.
The former One Direction member is understood to have fallen from the third floor of a hotel around 5pm local time.
His body was found in the courtyard of the Casa Sur Hotel in the Palermo neighbourhood, surrounded by tables and chairs.
Fans have been left devastated and stunned by the news, with many pointing out that Payne was posting videos to his Snapchat account seemingly just an hour before his death.
In one of the videos, Payne states he and his girlfriend Kate Cassidy were “enjoying coffee and breakfast, even though it is like 1pm”.
“It is a lovely day here in Argentina,” he said.
Time stamps on the video show it was only posted to his Snapchat around about an hour before his death. However, it is understood Cassidy left Payne several days ago to return to Florida.
In another video captioned “quality time”, Payne and Cassidy smile and pose for the camera.
On another photo, the British singer wrote: “Happy I got some time away”.
In a separate video, Payne speaks about their plans for the day, which includes “going to ride some horses”.
He also talks about having a sore neck and back from playing polo, which he describes as “so hard to do”.
“It hurt a lot. It is very tough to do”.
Another clip shows the singer attempting to fix his hair on camera, stating: “I look like the joker. My hair is a bit cray”.
The British singer also sent his well wishes to the people in Florida impacted by Hurricane Milton and spoke about going home to see his dog Nala.
“I hope everyone was OK in Milton by the way. It was a scary thing to watch from far way. I hope all the little dogs and everything made it out as well, because there were quite sad stories about dogs,” he said.
“Obviously we are going to go home and see our dog Nala.”
Payne is father to a seven-year-old son, Bear, whom he shares with UK singer Cheryl Cole.
TMZ reports Payne was sighted acting erratically in the hotel lobby earlier in the day, with multiple sources telling the outlet emergency services was called to report an “aggressive” male.
The publication claims Payne smashed his laptop and had to be carried back to his room.
Alberto Crescenti, head of the Buenos Aires’ public emergency medical services, confirmed the star’s death, saying he fell around 14 metres, suffering “very serious injuries incompatible with life”.
“At 17:04, through 911, the integrated public security system, we were alerted about a person who was in an internal courtyard of the Casa Sur hotel. At 17:11, a team arrived and confirmed the man’s death,” he said.
“We later learned that he was a singer in a musical group. Unfortunately, he had injuries incompatible with life as a result of his fall, so we had to confirm his death. There was no possibility of resuscitation.”
Music world in shock over Payne’s death
Tributes have been flowing in for the One Direction star, with many in the music industry sharing their shock over his sudden death.
“RIP Liam … I can’t believe this is real … absolutely heartbreaking …,” German DJ Anton Zaslavski, also known as Zedd, wrote on X.
“Sending strength to Cheryl and his son Bear and all the One direction Family,” Irish singing and television presenting duo, Jedward wrote.
Singer Charlie Puth shared a series of posts on his Instagram Story where he remembered Payne for being “so kind” to him.
“I am in shock right now. Liam was always so kind to me. He was one of the first major artists I got to work with. I cannot believe he is gone,” Puth wrote, before sharing an old photo and video of the pair.
“May he rest in peace.”
Paris Hilton shared: “So upsetting to hear the news of (Liam Payne) passing. Sending love and condolences to his family & loved ones. RIP my friend.”
