Dance music legend Maxi Jazz of band Faithless dead at 65

Faithless lead singer Maxi Jazz has died aged 65, “heartbroken” members have shared in an emotional tribute.

The dance music legend, who is said to have died peacefully in his sleep, is being remembered as a “lovely human being with time for everyone,” reported The Sun.

Faithless formed in 1996 and their huge hits included Insomnia, We Come 1 and God is a DJ.

Tributes have flooded in for the 65-year-old whose real name was Maxwell Fraser.
 

Faithless shared an emotional statement to social media on Christmas Eve, saying Maxi had changed their lives in so many ways.

They spoke to his talent inside and outside the recording studio, too.

“We are heartbroken to say Maxi Jazz died last night,” the band wrote.

“He was a man who changed our lives in so many ways. He gave proper meaning and message to our music.
 

“He was also a lovely human being with time for everyone and a wisdom that was both profound and accessible.

“It was an honour and, of course, a true pleasure to work with him.

“He was a brilliant lyricist, a DJ, a Buddhist, a magnificent stage presence, car lover, endless talker, beautiful person, moral compass and genius.”

Faithless band member Sister Bliss took to Twitter to share a tribute.

She wrote: “We are heartbroken to share that Maxi died peacefully in his sleep last night.

“Sending love to all of you who shared our musical journey. Look after each other y’hear.”

Outside of Faithless, which formed in 1995, Maxi performed as a solo artist and toured and collaborated with many more.

One of those was UB40, who wrote on social media: “A lovely guy, again who has gone too soon, but finally Maxi you can get some sleep.”
