Taylor Swift’s is on an absolute career high and there’s no stopping her – but there’s one issue even she can’t escape.
COMMENT
A very important theory about Taylor Swift is circulating online.
If you’re a millennial, you’ll get it and if you’re a Gen Zer – well, this is all your fault.
After hiding from public life for a few years when she was dating Joe Alwyn, Swift is now very much in her being seen era.
She’s everywhere - out for dinners with her girl gang, going on double dates with her boyfriend Travis Kelce, Blake Lively, and Ryan Reynolds, and just hanging out all over New York City.
This means that for the first time in years, we are getting a look at not just the stuff Swift wears to red carpets, but her wardrobe go-tos and everyday street style - and the reviews are mixed.
Last night was a prime example: Swift stepped out in a crushed velvet gold matching two-piece.
Commenting online, someone said she looked “beautiful”, while another follower suggested she “get a stylist asap”.
Now Taylor Swift is never going to look bad, but perhaps some criticism of the pieces she’d picked out was fair. Some who weighed in didn’t like the colour, the fact that the outfit was too matchy-matchy, while others simply seemed not to be fans of miniskirts in general.
Those critics are unlikely to be satisfied any time soon, because Swift has been almost exclusively favouring miniskirts and a fun top, and a fanpage has shared a very compelling theory that could explain why short skirts have become the popstar’s go-to.
The fan, who goes by the handle BejeweledPaige, has amassed over 700,000 views on X by sharing her theory on why Swift has started only wearing miniskirts, and it makes so much sense.
“Maybe Taylor Swift has switched to exclusively wearing skirts because, like all of us millennials, she has no idea what jeans to wear anymore,” she wrote.
Is the theory foolproof? No, but who cares? Haven’t we all believed more for less?
It is a good theory.
Swift is a millennial. She’s lived through the skinny jean phase, and she’s likely now very intimidated by the low-rise baggy phase.
She’s human and Gen Z trends are hard to keep up with.
It is overwhelming to understand that slogan T-shirts are now not just something your dad wears on holidays but are cool.
Also, it is embarrassing if you’re famous and you get the jeans thing wrong. If you’re just a normal millennial, the expectations are lower; you’ll get away with it until your cool younger cousin tells you that you’re wearing the wrong jeans at Christmas.
You’ll laugh it off but secretly be seething and panicking.
“Am I old?” will be the question haunting you for the rest of the silly season.
Paige’s theory hit a nerve with fans.
“Real,” one wrote.
“This is perfect,” another commented.
“The jeans dilemma is a millennial crisis,” one mused.
“Yes! I am an older millennial and literally shopped for jeans yesterday. I bought 40,000 different pairs to try on, and all are being returned. I just want a nice pair of jeans!” someone complained.
“I’m just wearing all of them at this point — skinny, boyfriend, wide, flair. Whatever I can squeeze into that day,” one shared.
“Spot on! Skinny, loose, boot leg, flares, skinny again?”
It does seem like Swift has become more of a fan of anything but jeans in recent months.
She’s always in skirts, shorts, or dresses and who could blame her? Jeans are a very touchy subject for any millennial, even the A-listers.
