2 year oldCelebs have today walked the year’s wildest and most extravagant red carpet: the 2022 Met Gala at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Guests this year have been told to dress in the theme of “Gilded glamour, white-tie” and asked to “embody the grandeur – and perhaps the dichotomy – of gilded age New York”.
It appears to be a narrower remit than previous years, where broad themes like “camp” saw celebs dress in a wild variety of outfits – scroll on to see how many of them actually stuck to Vogue editor Anna Wintour’s sartorial instructions and who went rogue (we’re looking at you, Kodi Smit-McPhee).
First up, a look we’ve all been waiting for. Kim Kardashian went for classic, old Hollywood glamour - literally - by wearing Marilyn Monroe’s iconic ‘Happy Birthday, Mr President’ dress.
Originally designed for Monroe by Jean Louis in 1962, it's considered the world’s most expensive dress, after Ripley’s museum in Florida purchased it for $6.8 million in 2016.
In a newly-published profile on Kim’s Met Gala prep on Vogue, it was reported that she went on a strict diet to be able to fit into the dress, which she’ll wear for just minutes on the red carpet before changing into an exact replica to keep the original safe.
Speaking on the red carpet, Kim said she lost “16 pounds” (7kg) in just three weeks so she’d be able to fit into the dress.
Then there’s perhaps the night’s most confusing outfit: Red carpet photographers from Getty and most media outlets - yes, us included - initially reported that it was actor Jared Leto hidden in this truly bizarre ensemble:
But - shock! - it’s not him. It’s fashion entrepreneur Fredrik Robertsson:
