7 year oldWhen Will Seaton started dating Ashley Schaus in 2010 he was told her that her and her sister Hannah, who has Down syndrome and diabetes, were a “package deal”.
From then on Hannah was invited to the majority of the couple’s dates, so it was only natural that she would be included when Seaton popped the question in March last year.
Seaton got down on one knee in a field of flowers near their home in Santa Claus, Indiana and asked Hannah to be his “best friend forever” before turning to Ashley and asking her to marry him.
“It was the sweetest moment in my whole life watching Hannah be so happy and feeling so special,” Ashley told Fox 5.
“And then he looked at me as I was trying to stop sobbing. I asked ‘Am I next?’ Then he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife.”
Seaton planned every detail of the proposal, even presenting Hannah with her own ring, an heirloom that belonged to the sisters’ grandmother.
Hannah was reportedly thrilled at Seaton’s gesture to include her in his proposal, giving insight into their special relationship by adding that “He takes me fishing and makes funny jokes. He makes me laugh and takes care of me”.
The wedding is planned for October, with Ashley saying her younger sister will be a major part of the ceremony.
“She’s more than just a bridesmaid, she’s practically one-third of the wedding.”
Hannah and Seaton will exchange “best friend vows” and share a first dance to the song “Best Friend” by Harry Nilsson.
