7 year oldThe lead singer of Maroon 5 took aim at music’s weirdest award show earlier today, tweeting his “excitement” about watching the show.
“It’s always exciting to see how utterly horrible the VMAs will be,” he wrote.
“They really delivered so far this year,” he continued before ending with the hashtag “HOLYF**K”.
The singer, whose last appearance at the award show was in 2014, also tweeted his disgust over the way Julia Michaels’ performance of Issues was cut off.
Michaels, who was nominated for Best New Artist after she stepped away from writing hit songs for artists like Justin Bieber to have a shot at her own music career, saw her performance get cut off halfway through for a commercial break.
Almost immediately after Michaels’ performance, Kiwi singer Lorde took to the stage to perform her new single Homemade Dynamite.
Lorde, who revealed on Twitter earlier in the day that she had been on an IV drip to beat a ruthless flu, did the entire performance mute — instead opting for a peculiar interpretative dance for the song’s full three minutes.
That didn’t sit well with Levine, who slammed his friend’s performance snub with a pointed tweet.
