7 year oldCHRIS Brown has come under fire after buying a pet monkey for his young daughter, Royalty.
The Don’t Wake Me Up singer uploaded a video to Instagram which saw his three-year-old daughter beaming as she held her new pet, The Sun reports.
Sitting in Royalty’s lap was a small baby marmoset, which was wrapped in a blanket and wearing a nappy.
In the video, Brown could be heard laughing as he asked his little girl: “Is that your baby? He’s going to be bigger than you! Look, you have the same sized head!”
While Royalty was clearly delighted with her new pet, Brown’s followers slammed him for the “irresponsible” and “cruel” new addiction to his family.
Taking to the comments section of the video, one fan wrote: “It is so cruel to have a monkey as a pet …. miserable.”
“That monkey, Was torn away from ITS Mom, so you could have it … … Shame Chris, shame,” another said.
Another fan said: “This poor baby Monkey belongs with its family in a natural habitat. It is not a domesticated animal such as a dog or cat and in no way should be a pet or promoted as a pet.”
Others, however, thought the star’s wealth gave him the opportunity to spoil his little girl in the wrong way.
“In my opinion baby monkeys belong to their mothers and not into the hands of a little girl for her to pet them,” other fan said.
“Has it become too normal for her to “just” have a dog or a cat??”
And another begged him to reconsider keeping the tiny monkey: “This is irresponsible. This animal was stolen from the wild to become a pet,” they said.
“Please take it to a sanctuary where it will receive proper care and can hopefully be returned to the wild!”
Brown isn’t the only star who has come under fire for wanting a marmoset monkey as a pet.
The animal, which featured prominently in the first few seasons of Friends as a pet for Ross Gellar, was also the adopted animal of choice for Justin Bieber back in 2013.
Originally given the pet as a gift for his birthday, Bieber’s pet, named OG Mally, was eventually taken off him at the border in Munich, Germany, after he failed to hand over the paperwork needed to bring the animal into the country.
